How to Scrunch Straight Hair

Published by on August 26th, 2011

There are lots of things you can do with straight hair, like scrunching into sexy styles. How can this be done?  Hair texture and the kinds of styling products you use can influence the outcome, but here are a few easy steps you can follow for lush waves and great volume:

• Wash your hair and wrap it up in a towel. While it’s still quite wet, remove the towel and part your hair where you want it.

• Brush your hair to get all the tangles out, then section it off into four parts. Two parts down the middle at the back of your head  and then halfway through the top, leaving you with a section on the top and one on the bottom.

• Apply mousse to the first section, the bottom one, without spreading it to your roots because your hair will look greasy. After the mousse, apply gel to the same place, making sure it’s curl shaping gel with extra strong hold.

• Braid the section, making it as tight as possible. Repeat the previous step and this step with the rest of the sections.

• Once all of your hair has been braided, give each braid a thorough application of hairspray, avoiding the roots to prevent them from greasing up.

• Perform the steps overnight, spraying before going to sleep. When you wake up, take the braids out and you should have waves in your hair. Scrunch it up using mousse and hairspray to get it ready for the day.

You can also try wetting your hair and pulling it into a French braid overnight, using hairspray before going to bed. Take out the braid when you wake up and use mouse to scrunch up the waves. Apply some hairspray to hold the style for longer. If you need more root volume, scrunch your hair with your head upside down.

Messy buns can also work, so put your hair in one overnight and add some hairspray, making sure your hair is slightly damp so that it can dry in the bun (or braids). Take your hair out of the bun in the morning and you’ll experience smooth waves.

For best results, use curl-defining mousse or gel to your hair or define the look with a curling iron.

How to Keep Sleek Styles Straight

Published by on July 26th, 2011

Want long lasting straightness? Sometimes this can be tricky if your hair isn’t naturally straight, or if certain environmental factors come into play. To keep your hair looking freshly straightened for longer, consider the following tips:

• Keep your hair long, it’s less likely to curl up like short hair. The added weight of long hair can pull it down and stay straighter for hours.

• Avoid straightening during wet, windy and humid weather. This can make your hair frizzy and ruin all of your efforts.

• Invest in a high quality hair straightener, like the Karmin G3. Professional straighteners release more concentrated heat to keep your locks straighter and healthier looking for longer.

• Use straightening shampoo and conditioner, they contain ingredients to flatten your hair. Don’t shampoo to frequently and dry your hair with a soft towel or hair dryer (always blowing downwards to avoid volume). Wet hair can break more easily, which is why you need to dry it before straightening.

• Straightening in a hurry only makes the results last less time, so make the effort of separating smaller sections and taking your time on each one. It may be quite a lengthy process but your hair will remain straight for longer.

• When straightening, use swift, smooth movements to run over sections without pausing over any areas because you can expose them to too much heat. A heat protectant is in order to keep your hair from suffering heat damage. Try Pro Naturals Morroccan Hair Oil with Heat Protectant.

• Use a straightening serum containing silicone on your hair, including on the roots. The serum protects your hair from environmental moisture and humidity.

• Mist the underside and top of your hair with spray after you’ve finished. It might make your locks a bit stiff but it also sets the style.

• When your hair is straight, avoid tying it up with a hair-band or clip for too long, you can experience breaks and twists when you take it out again.

And presto! Sleeker, smoother hair for longer!

How to Blow Dry your Hair Straight

Published by on July 22nd, 2011

Can’t spare the time to blow dry AND straighten your hair? Well now you can learn how to blow dry and straighten with just your hair dryer, a really useful thing if you you don’t own a flat iron or if you don’t have time to use both styling tools. Getting sleek, smooth tresses with your blow dryer can reduce styling time drastically and can be simple to achieve if you follow these easy steps:

1. Shampoo and condition your hair as usual either during your shower or when you just wash your hair. Clean hair is super important when styling, you don’t want to heat up grease or accumulated hair products on your locks! Towel dry your hair to eliminate excess moisture.

2. Apply some heat protectant, like Pro Naturals Moroccan Oil Hair Treatment, to prevent damage from the heat emitted from the hair dryer. Work it in thoroughly, including the ends.

3. Work some straightening serum into your hair (the amount depends on the length and texture), distributing it evenly and massaging it in.

4. Now it’s time to break out the blow dryer. If you want superior results, you’ll want to try the Karmin Salon Pro Professional hair dryer, use it at a low setting first and direct the airflow gently at your hair, combing through with your fingers to get rid of excess moisture.

5. Divide your hair into three sections, one at the back and two at the front. Clip the lateral sections and select a small part of hair from the unclipped section of the back. With a thick round brush, start at the roots and pull the brush gently through till you reach the ends as you simultaneously blow dry. Pull the hair away from your head, stretching it and straightening it under the heat.

6. Brush the underside of your hair and expose it directly to the heat and once it’s dry, switch to the top. Distribute the heat and tension evenly over each section to prevent heat concentration and drying out. Keep drying small parts of hair until that section is dry, then move on to the other sections until your entire head s dry and straight.

Finish off with a light application of anti-frizz serum or spray to tame flyaways and keep your locks smooth for longer. Want extra tips? Here’s a video tutorial of how to blow dry your hair straight and run it through with a flat iron afterwards.
