How to Make Curly Hairstyles Last

Published by on December 8th, 2011

Sick of your curly hairstyles falling flat in seconds after all that effort? If you have natural curls or if you create them with a curling iron or traditional method, there are several tips to make sure your curly hairstyles stay soft, bouncy and beautiful for longer.

Keep your locks healthy

Healthy hair is super important for great results. Whether you’re naturally curly or like to flaunt created curls, you need healthy locks to look amazing. Curly hair should be washed once every other day or less. Washing too often will strip away the natural oils that keep the strands moisturized and soft. If you are going to style curly hair, wash it the night before to make sure the natural oils set in by the time you style. Trimming the ends will prevent them from splitting and a light conditioner is a good idea after washing to keep your locks hydrated.

Protecting your hair from damaging factors

Factors such as humidity, heat and the wrong hair products all contribute to ruining curly hairstyles. Humidity causes unsightly frizz, so try anti-frizz or anti-humidity products to control this issue. Excess heat is an enemy of healthy hair, causing dryness and general damage. Use thermal protectants if you plan to use heat styling tools and avoid alcohol-based products because these can make your hair brittle. Use conditioning products to ensure your curly hairstyles last longer and don’t forget to treat your hair gently. If you want to color your curls, be careful, dyes involve chemical processes that can damage your hair, so follow the instructions properly and keep your locks conditioned.

Using lasting products

Hair sprays are good for keeping curls in place, just make sure not to use too much. Also, avoid touching your curls too much because this can unsettle the style and cause frizz.

Fabulous Curly Styles with Clip-in Extensions

Published by on September 13th, 2011

Want fabulous curls? Don’t have enough length or volume? Well this problem can be easily solved with clip in hair extensions. With these you can accent, complement and reinvent your styles to look amazing for any occasion. Clip in hair extensions are super easy to use, just take a peek at our article How Clip-in Extensions Work to learn how to attach them yourself in minutes.

Now let’s look at a couple of flowing curly styles.

California Curls
You may know them as Hollywood curls, and they’re extremely popular with celebs during red-carpet season. It’s all about long luxurious curls that flow down your back, framing your features and softening your appearance. With these curls you get a sensation of movement and glamour, making you look and feel like a princess!

If your hair is too short or too thin, you can use clip in hair extensions to create this amazing look, and you can choose lighter or darker tones than your natural shade to allow color alternation. The great thing about clip ins is that you can get this style done instantly without waiting months for your hair to grow.

Color Curls

Also known as Color Enhanced Hollywood Curls, you obtain a hairstyle with a lot of length and a subtle use of color to bring out the style. With these curls, you will concentrate more on the color than on the curl and clip in hair extensions are a fantastic complement (for color as well as volume), since they are available in many different tones. This way, instead of coloring your own hair you can just rely on the clip ins to provide the accents for you.

With short hair, using clip in extensions is a great alternative, especially if they are made with 100 percent human hair because they can be curled just like your natural hair. Your hair styles will look natural and beautiful!

Ten Hairstyles Ideas for Curly hair

Published by on August 2nd, 2011

Nowadays, straight hair is all the rage. We see curly women straighten their hair for every occasion, even to go to work because straight hair looks much more professional. But lovely, bouncy curls are beautiful too! You just have to try these professional curly hairstyles without straying from your natural look.

1. Curly Bob

Now when you imagine a curly bob, you probably see a mop of curls on your head. But your curls will actually look tighter, shinier and more professional, plus it’ll be a lot easier to maintain, with just a few trips to the stylist to trim every once in a while.

2. Braids

These are a nice, neat way to keep curls under control. For those with longer curly hair, a side braid will make a good work look and also seem stylish. Make sure that when you braid, keep it tight to control your curls.

3. High Ponytail/Bun

Another way to sweep the curls away from your face, while staying trendy and professional. With longer hair, tie it into a high ponytail and let the curls naturally cascade down. If you want to freshen up your look, use the Karmin Salon Pro Clipless Curling Iron to enhance those curls.

4. Completely Natural

Sometimes the best thing is to let your hair down and flaunt your natural curls. This creates a much softer and youthful look and guarantees a second glance. You do need to maintain it, so try Pro Naturals Moroccan Oil to keep your curls smooth and glossy.

5. Half up

Letting a few curls down to frame your face always looks stylish, so try tying half your locks up while leaving the rest free.

6. Accessorize

Hair accessories can complement your hair and also keep it out of your face. Headbands, funky clips, stylish bobby pins all work to create a look.

7. Twists

Grabbing some hair, twisting it back and pinning it to your head makes for a classic but functional style. Be sure to twist tightly to end up with a polished look.

8. Bangs

Not all hair types can handle bangs, and if your hair’s curly, bangs could be a challenge. Make sure they don’t cover your eyes and when you go to get them cut, make sure your curls are dry rather than wet, to avoid getting them cut shorter than you want.

9. French Twist

Classic and chic, the French twist looks professional on anyone no matter the hair type. You can wear this style tightly or loosely with stray curls framing your face.

10. Pin it Up

Using bobby pins, take layers of your hair starting from the top and pin them up. Once you’ve pinned up the top half, get creative with the bottom half, twisting up hair and pinning it to your head. Add hairspray to the finished result!

Creating Curls with a Curling Iron

Published by on July 20th, 2011

Curls are all the rage because of the soft, youthful look they create but only a few have been blessed with natural bounce in their locks. Bit not all is lost, there are dozens of methods that convert even bone straight hair into beautiful curls and spirals. In this article we’ll show you how to curl your locks using a curling iron. If you own a flat iron then check out our Creating Curly Styles with Your Flat Iron article.

The process will take about thirty minutes or more depending on your hair texture and the type of curling iron you’re using (if it’s theĀ Karmin Professional Salon Pro Clipless Curling Iron then you’ve hit the jackpot). Here’s how:

1. Wash and condition your hair as normal but avoid using straightening serum, it will prevent your curls from holding. Comb your hair and blow dry if necessary (or simply air dry if you have the time), getting all the tangles out. Separate your hair into small sections, 8 or 9 if your hair is thin or fine, 15 or 16 if it’s course or thick.

2. Clip up the sections, leaving just one out to work on. Place it through the curling iron and rotate (or roll it up around the barrel if the iron is clipless) and keep it there for about ten seconds before releasing. Do the same on all the sections until all of your hair is tumbling with curls.

3. To finish, use your fingers to gently tousle the curls for a more natural look and add some spray (just a light application so as not to weigh the curls down) to hold the style for longer.

That’s all there is to it! Don’t forget to apply some heat protectant before using the curling iron, we recommend Pro Naturals Moroccan Hair Oil for the job, it keeps your hair safe from the heat and leaves it smooth too.

Creating Curly Styles with Your Flat Iron

If you don’t already have a head full of bouncy, shapely curls then it’s about time you did!

But curling with a flat iron? How does that work? Very well actually, and the results even last longer than when curling with a curling iron. How do create beautiful, bouncy curls? We’ll tell you:

1. The first thing you need to do is wash your hair as normal and use a heat protectant to minimize heat damage. Pro Naturals Morroccan Oil Hair Treatment with Heat Protector can strengthen your locks and smooth them while creating a barrier between the strands and heat.

2. Next, divide your hair into sections and pick up your flat iron, we recommend the Karmin G3 Salon Pro for this job, and grab a section about half an inch thick (the thicker the section, the bigger the curl).

3. Now for the tricky part. It’s really all about the angle when you’re curling each section. Start further down than usual, around the middle and clamp the flat iron over the section. Keep the flat iron at a vertical angle and clamp down on the section, rotating outwards and simultaneously pulling towards the ends. That’s one way to do it, but there are different techniques depending on the type of curl you’re after.

4. Do this for all sections of your hair and when you’ve finished, add some random curls to the mix and blend them in so that the style looks more natural. Set the curls with a fixing hair spray so that the style can last longer and to protect them from moisture and prevent them from falling flat.

Here’s a video tutorial you can follow that teaches you how to curl your hair using a flat iron using another method, it’s quite straightforward and shows you step by step how to create beautiful, loose curls to last through the day:
