Choosing the Best Hair Curling Iron

Published by on December 12th, 2011

Need a replacement curling iron or are you on the lookout for your first model? There are several things you have to think about when choosing a hair curling iron, especially if you’re looking for the best hair curling iron.

One of those things is curling iron type. There are hundreds of different curling irons available to choose from, but to make the most out of the curling process, you will need to select the best hair curling iron to suit your own personal styling needs. For example, if you’re a beginner, try the conventional spring curling iron because it is straightforward to use, thanks to the clamp. If you are more experienced, try the clipless curling iron which allows you to create more natural curls. Professionals may go for Marcel curling irons which need some ability to handle, and for those who prefer gentle waves, you can choose a double or triple barrel curling iron.

The next thing to think about is heating materials. The best hair curling iron will feature genuine heating materials with the capacity of distributing even heat and conserving the heat of your locks. Materials such as tourmaline or ceramic are great for styling hair, especially if they are in pure form. With cheap metallic barrels you can risk burning your hair because the thin coating of ceramic isn’t enough to produce many benefits.  If you want to use the best curling iron, think about getting one with good quality materials. When it has good materials, the high temperatures won’t be damaging to your locks, instead they will help style your hair faster.

Barrel size is also important because it determines the size of the curl. If you want large curls, use larger barrels, if you want basic, natural curls, choose a medium barrel and if you want tighter, springier curls, buy a thinner barrel.

Best Hair Curlers for Straight Hair

Published by on November 28th, 2011

Straight hair is a blessing for a lot of women, it’s easily maintained, polished and professional looking. However, straight locks can be hard to style, especially if you want some extra texture in it.

There are lots of ways to add texture to straight hair, but very few effective methods to make a perfect curl especially if you have very straight locks. What are the best hair curlers for straight hair?

Some methods for curling straight hair are more successful than others,  for example the perm. You can obtain more permanent results with this process but if you’re worried about damaging your hair, or if you simply want a more temporary change in hairstyle you can always choose hot rollers, braiding or curling irons. A lot of people prefer curling irons and these devices are popular due to the great results they can provide. Known as one of the best hair curlers, curling irons can put a lovely ringlet, spiral or wave in straight hair, even if it’s bone straight.

There are some things to remember when curling straight hair and that’s considering your hair texture. Straight hair has it’s own categories: fine, medium and thick, so choosing the best hair curler depends on knowing what works better on your particular texture. Since curling irons use heat to curl straight hair, the temperature can affect your hair. For example, fine hair requires lower temperatures, so choose a curling iron that features adjustable heat settings. For medium and thick hair, you need higher temperatures in order to create a goo, long-lasting curl.

Another thing that’s important to think about is the heating materials. The best hair curlers use ceramic or tourmaline combined with effective ionic technology. This way, your straight hair can be successfully curled without suffering any damage. You can enjoy perfectly shiny curls as long as you use the best appliance for your locks.

Different Types of Curling Iron

Published by on September 30th, 2011

If you’re on the lookout for the perfect curling iron, beware! There are many types available on the market, but you need to buy one that matches your styling needs so that you can get the most out of what it offers. Here’s a short guide to help:

Spring curling iron

Great for beginners, the spring curling iron is one of the most popular types you can find. You are able to firmly hold your locks as you style thanks to the spring-action clip. The only effort needed to make it work is to catch and release sections of your hair by controlling the clip using your thumb.

Clipless curling iron

If you’re accustomed to the spring mechanism curling iron, you might need a few test tries with the clipless model, but it’s not hard to handle once you’ve dominated the basics. You just need to wrap the ends of your hair last instead of first, this way preventing split ends and creases. You can access your roots a lot easier with one of these, giving you more styling freedom. One great clipless model is the Karmin Salon Pro Clipless.

Marcel curling iron

This model was originally designed for stylists and hair professionals with its tricky manual operation and extra handle to control the curling process more efficiently. The Marcel curling iron requires some experienced handling and skill in order to obtain the desired outcome. When you have gotten the hang of the Marcel curling iron you can expect professional results.

Double/Triple barrel curling iron

The double barrel curling iron allows you to create figure-eight type curls and the triple barrel model lets you to make loose, flowing waves. Although quite complicated to maneuver, these kinds of curling iron can work on large pieces of hair, thus reducing styling time.

Spiral/Ribbon curling iron

It is possible to create tighter, more precise curls, defined spirals and bouncy ringlets with one of these curling irons. The barrel has raised ridges along its length, where you can wrap around sections of hair.

Creating Waves with a Curling Iron

Published by on September 29th, 2011

If your hair needs a bit of volume and texture, why not try sexy, cascading waves with your curling iron? There are traditional methods of creating waves, such as the ones mentioned in our article Simple Tips for Sexy Waves, but using a curling iron you can obtain results a lot faster.

The barrel size of a curling iron influences the type and size of the wave, so choose a large barrel (up to 2 inches) or use a double/triple barrel curling iron to do the job.

Now, let’s see how to create those luscious waves!

•  Heat the barrel to medium or high temperature if the model you own has settings. Test the curling iron out on a lock of hair to check if the barrel is hot enough to use for curling the rest.

•  Remember to use a styling product and thermal protectant like Pro Naturals Moroccan Oil before applying the curling iron to your locks. The styling product can keep a firm hold on the waves so that they last longer. Use a manageable product such as a light hold mousse or gel. This will guarantee  natural looking waves instead of stiff ones.

•  Choose a section of hair about 1 to 1 ½ inches thick, and wrap it around the hot barrel. Start by wrapping the ends of the section around the barrel first and rolling it all the way around until it is about 2 inches from your roots. A clipless curling iron like the Karmin Salon Pro Clipless allows you to accomplish this a lot easier. For extra waves, twirl the lock of hair with your fingers before you wrap it around the barrel. Hold it there for about 10 seconds and release the hair.

•  Do this with medium to large sections of hair until it is all wavy. Finish with a light hold hairspray to keep the style in place and to hold the waves. You can tousle the waves gently with your fingers to separate them, giving your style a more natural appearance.

Best Curling Iron for Fine Hair

Published by on September 28th, 2011

Is your hair so fine that it’s impossible to get one little spiral into it? With fine hair that is straight, no wonder you complain that curls won’t last long. This hair type is difficult to style and volumize, but there are lots of options available to give your hair some texture. A curling iron is one of them, but you can’t just choose any old curling iron.

Cheap brands are so risky to use on fine hair since this hair type is much more vulnerable to heat damage because of its delicate nature. If you want to avoid frying your tresses then it is essential to shop around properly for an ideal curling iron that matches your hair’s needs.

Choose a professional curling iron with premium quality heating elements such as ceramic, tourmaline or both. Since fine hair is more sensitive than other hair types, it needs supreme care when exposed to heat, and ceramic can provide just that. It emits a moist, gentle heat that styles your hair safely and increases its health as well as shine.

It’s also good to check out the temperatures a curling iron can handle, and if it features a temperature gauge, even better. With fine hair you don’t need scorching heat to give it some curl, you’ll just frazzle your tresses! Use lower temperatures instead and save your locks from heat damage. A professional model will provide even heat along the entire length of the barrel, further preventing hot spots and potential overheating of the hair.

To enjoy extra bouncy curls, great texture and wonderful volume in your fine hair, try the Karmin Salon Pro Clipless curling iron, which can handle temperatures of up to 410 degrees and features a highly polished ceramic barrel that styles your locks safely with smooth, shapely results.

Ten Hairstyles Ideas for Curly hair

Published by on August 2nd, 2011

Nowadays, straight hair is all the rage. We see curly women straighten their hair for every occasion, even to go to work because straight hair looks much more professional. But lovely, bouncy curls are beautiful too! You just have to try these professional curly hairstyles without straying from your natural look.

1. Curly Bob

Now when you imagine a curly bob, you probably see a mop of curls on your head. But your curls will actually look tighter, shinier and more professional, plus it’ll be a lot easier to maintain, with just a few trips to the stylist to trim every once in a while.

2. Braids

These are a nice, neat way to keep curls under control. For those with longer curly hair, a side braid will make a good work look and also seem stylish. Make sure that when you braid, keep it tight to control your curls.

3. High Ponytail/Bun

Another way to sweep the curls away from your face, while staying trendy and professional. With longer hair, tie it into a high ponytail and let the curls naturally cascade down. If you want to freshen up your look, use the Karmin Salon Pro Clipless Curling Iron to enhance those curls.

4. Completely Natural

Sometimes the best thing is to let your hair down and flaunt your natural curls. This creates a much softer and youthful look and guarantees a second glance. You do need to maintain it, so try Pro Naturals Moroccan Oil to keep your curls smooth and glossy.

5. Half up

Letting a few curls down to frame your face always looks stylish, so try tying half your locks up while leaving the rest free.

6. Accessorize

Hair accessories can complement your hair and also keep it out of your face. Headbands, funky clips, stylish bobby pins all work to create a look.

7. Twists

Grabbing some hair, twisting it back and pinning it to your head makes for a classic but functional style. Be sure to twist tightly to end up with a polished look.

8. Bangs

Not all hair types can handle bangs, and if your hair’s curly, bangs could be a challenge. Make sure they don’t cover your eyes and when you go to get them cut, make sure your curls are dry rather than wet, to avoid getting them cut shorter than you want.

9. French Twist

Classic and chic, the French twist looks professional on anyone no matter the hair type. You can wear this style tightly or loosely with stray curls framing your face.

10. Pin it Up

Using bobby pins, take layers of your hair starting from the top and pin them up. Once you’ve pinned up the top half, get creative with the bottom half, twisting up hair and pinning it to your head. Add hairspray to the finished result!

Creating Curls with a Curling Iron

Published by on July 20th, 2011

Curls are all the rage because of the soft, youthful look they create but only a few have been blessed with natural bounce in their locks. Bit not all is lost, there are dozens of methods that convert even bone straight hair into beautiful curls and spirals. In this article we’ll show you how to curl your locks using a curling iron. If you own a flat iron then check out our Creating Curly Styles with Your Flat Iron article.

The process will take about thirty minutes or more depending on your hair texture and the type of curling iron you’re using (if it’s the Karmin Professional Salon Pro Clipless Curling Iron then you’ve hit the jackpot). Here’s how:

1. Wash and condition your hair as normal but avoid using straightening serum, it will prevent your curls from holding. Comb your hair and blow dry if necessary (or simply air dry if you have the time), getting all the tangles out. Separate your hair into small sections, 8 or 9 if your hair is thin or fine, 15 or 16 if it’s course or thick.

2. Clip up the sections, leaving just one out to work on. Place it through the curling iron and rotate (or roll it up around the barrel if the iron is clipless) and keep it there for about ten seconds before releasing. Do the same on all the sections until all of your hair is tumbling with curls.

3. To finish, use your fingers to gently tousle the curls for a more natural look and add some spray (just a light application so as not to weigh the curls down) to hold the style for longer.

That’s all there is to it! Don’t forget to apply some heat protectant before using the curling iron, we recommend Pro Naturals Moroccan Hair Oil for the job, it keeps your hair safe from the heat and leaves it smooth too.
