Benefits of Ionic Hair Dryers

Published by on September 26th, 2011

Did you know you can easily own an ionic hair dryer to blow dry you locks at home? These hair dryers are increasingly popular and relatively affordable, being available in many stores. But how can an ionic hair dryer benefit you?

Ionic hair dryers can produce negatively charged ions that break down the water molecules, forcing them to evaporate faster. The hot air emitted by the hair dryer is able to penetrate the hair shaft and dry it from the inside out, which greatly decreases the risk of damage and furthermore reduces drying time.

Thanks to this unique technology, ionic hair dryers are superior to regular hair dryers. With a regular model you will get positive ions instead of negative ones which only lengthen drying time and cause overheating, leaving hair frizzy and dry.

However, with an ionic hair dryer, you receive many benefits. Since these hair dryers break down water molecules fast, you will spend a lot less time exposing your hair to the high temperatures, reducing the risk of heat damage. Ionic hair dryers also help seal the cuticles, relaxing the hair shaft and making it shinier, improving the general health of your locks. Additionally, this hair dryer can eliminate the static that causes frizz.

To purchase the ideal ionic hair dryer you need to consider many factors. The more powerful the hair dryer the faster you will get results, so considering wattage is important. A high wattage means more power is being used and more heat is being produced.  If you have thick, curly or course hair, a hair dryer with a wattage of 1600 or more is perfect. Hair dryers with a lower wattage work well if you have thin or fine hair. Another essential factor in choosing the ideal ionic hair dryer is temperature. The hotter the air stream, the quicker your hair will dry, meaning less exposure to the heat.

Best Hair Dryer for Curly Hair

Published by on September 8th, 2011

Curly hair can be hard to blow dry successfully because of its complex nature . Finding the best hair dryer for curly locks is super important if you want fast results and healthy hair. When you have curly hair, you will notice that it dries out more easily than most hair types, and this is because the moisture and natural oils in your scalp are unable to travel all the way down each twisty strand. You need all the moisture you can get, so concentrate on finding a good quality hair dryer that uses only the best heating elements.

Not only is curly hair more vulnerable to the heat, it also requires high temperatures to dry successfully. This can be a bit of a problem, since too much heat can dry out your hair, but not enough of it won’t provide you with the results you want. What you need is a professional hair dryer that contains a powerful motor (at least 1800 watts) that can handle high temperatures without damaging your hair. One of these is the Karmin Salon Pro Professional hair dryer, so don’t hesitate to check this model out.

Make sure the hair dryer you purchase uses safe, moist ceramic heat. This heat is the least damaging and can help curly hair conserve its moisture. Try and find a model that features variable heat and air settings to give you more control over the drying process and therefore keep your locks healthy.

A diffuser attachment is very useful for drying curls and enhancing their natural texture, so consider getting one with your hair dryer if it doesn’t already come with one. You can then enjoy super smooth and defined curls that look completely natural. Read more about the advantages of a  diffuser attachment in our post Benefits of Hair Dryer Diffusers.

Benefits of Hair Dryer Diffusers

Published by on September 7th, 2011

A diffuser is a cone shaped object constructed of plastic that is attached to the end of your hair dryer and helps direct the airflow onto your locks. The end section is wide and circular (though not always) and features finger-like prongs and air holes. The prongs are very useful when drying curly or wavy hair because they lift the strands while they are being dried, giving curls and waves a more defined shape without the frizz. The air holes let the hot air circulate, preventing damage and overheating of the hair.

With curly hair a diffuser is a big help, since this hair type is dryer and is more vulnerable to the heat of a hair dryer, so using a diffuser can help conserve moisture and safely style your curls, enhancing their natural texture.

You can generally get a diffuser with the purchase of your hair dryer but if you have a hair dryer already you can find diffusers separately. There are different types of diffuser, some are shaped like hands, others in the shape of socks and a few shaped like prong-free portable fans.

How do you use a diffuser?

• Wash your hair as normal then apply some curl product  and work it thoroughly into your locks with your hands using scrunching motions. You’ll need this product in order to obtain defined and frizz free curls or waves.

• Turn on your hair dryer with the diffuser attached and direct it beneath a small lock of hair. Lift the hair dryer until the lock is held against your scalp in a curled position, and simultaneously dry it. You can also flip your hair upside down or to the side, cup it with the diffuser and dry in upwards motions.

• Repeat the previous step with all your hair until it’s completely dry, then finish the style with the cool shot button to bring out extra shine.

Here’s a great tutorial that explains how a diffuser works and the best way to use it:

Best Dual Voltage Hair Dryer

Published by on September 5th, 2011

Travel often? Or even sometimes? Whether you live out of your suitcase or enjoy occasional vacations but always want to look your best, you can rely on a dual voltage hair dryer for the job. Even if you have to use a hair dryer at home as well as abroad, a dual voltage model can work perfectly, all you have to do is flick the dual voltage switch if you’re anywhere other than home.

The difference between a dual voltage hair dryer and a normal one is that the former can convert from 110/120 V to 220/240V thanks to a standard adaptor, allowing it to work in any country provided there’s electricity.

You can find different types of dual voltage hair dryers, so here’s a quick guide to help you out when you’re buying one:

  • Ceramic dual voltage hair dryer: this is a rather popular choice since ceramic hair dryers possess instant heating properties provided by the self-regulating ceramic coils that evenly distribute heat and prevent hair damage.
  • Tourmaline dual voltage hair dryer: the tourmaline dual voltage hair dryer is able to emit negatively charged ions and infrared heat to make your hair feel softer and look sleeker.
  • Ionic dual voltage hair dryer: the ionic technology allows you to greatly reduce drying time with this hair dryer which utilizes charged ions to make the water molecules disappear, leaving your locks frizz-free and smooth.
  • Professional dual voltage hair dryer: the favorite of professional stylists, the professional hair dryer uses nothing but the most advanced technology and highest quality materials, making it durable and very reliable. It costs a bit more and is a little larger than most, but it’s features are well worth the price.

An example of a functional, top quality dual voltage hair dryer is the Karmin Salon Pro Professional featuring ceramic heating elements combined with ionic technology to give you the smoothest results anywhere you go.

How to Look After Your Hair Dryer

Published by on August 30th, 2011

To keep your hair dryer in excellent condition so that it can last a lot longer, you need to do some maintenance on it. Now by maintenance we’re not talking about taking the thing apart and switching wires around, we mean simple measures to ensure your hair dryer is safe to use.

1. Checking the hair dryer

Always give your hair dryer a once-over before starting. Make sure there are no wires sticking out of the body or the cord, no holes or tangles. If everything looks like it’s in order, then it’s safe to continue.

2. Cleaning the lint trap

A lot of hair dryers come with a removable back that protects the motor and sometimes it also features a lint trap. It’s preferable to buy one of these hair dryers because it makes it easier to empty the filter out, but if you don’t, then a regular Q-tip can do the trick. A lint trap can fill up in about two weeks of daily use, so get a Q-tip to remove the lint. If you don’t clean the filter, the lint can build up and cause the motor to become overheated and stop working.

3. Hair dryer use

The way you use your hair dryer also makes a difference. Avoid positioning the hair dryer too closely over one spot because it can damage your hair and overheat the hair dryer. Always include plenty of movement to help dry your hair quicker and prevent the dryer from burning out.

4. Handling

Stay away from water when using your hair dryer, contact with liquid can make the dryer fry and can get you electrocuted, so be careful when blow drying in the bathroom. Make sure every surface you use is dry. Keep the hair dryer away from desk and counter edges also, to avoid bumping against them and causing damage to the product.

5. Power

Some hair dryers use up lots of electricity and can even knock out surge protectors. Plug in your hair dryer into a wall socket or simply avoid overloading your surge protector.

How to Blow Dry Your Hair Like a Pro

Published by on July 27th, 2011

It really isn’t that hard to recreate a salon-quality blowout by yourself, just follow these simple steps to achieve professional results!

1. Having clean hair before you start blow drying is very important. Shampoo and condition your hair as normal and blot the excess moisture with a towel. Don’t blow dry dripping wet hair, you could end up boiling it!

2. Apply some smoothing product on your hair to keep frizz under control when you blow dry. Work it into every strand, this will give you better results. If your hair is dry, use some leave-in conditioner, shine serum or straightening balm to prevent it from getting drier under the heat. Coat the ends first and work your way up, using a comp to distribute the product efficiently.

3. Now it’s time to bring out the hair dryer. If you’re after professional results, try the Karmin Salon Pro, you’ll be amazed at how fabulous your tresses will look! Use it on a medium or low setting to gently dry your hair before turning up the heat.

4. Separate your hair into sections and clip up all them  but one. The number of sections depends on the thickness of your hair. With the airflow directed towards your hair, start combing through the section using your fingers, pulling from the roots. Lift the hair up and out a few inches, pointing the nozzle downwards always, holding the section taut so it can dry quicker and without frizz. This will dry the roots first, so that moisture won’t travel down.

5. Continue with a round-barreled brush, pulling it through the section while you blow dry with the nozzle pointing downwards. As you pull the brush, follow it with the hair dryer and hold the hair very taut.

7. Repeat this with all the sections and finish of with the cool shot button to set the style. An application of serum will ensure your look is polished and professional.

That’s all there is to it! You might have to practise before you get the results you want, it’s not exactly easy handling a hair dryer and brush expertly on the first try. Good luck!

How to Blow Dry your Hair Straight

Published by on July 22nd, 2011

Can’t spare the time to blow dry AND straighten your hair? Well now you can learn how to blow dry and straighten with just your hair dryer, a really useful thing if you you don’t own a flat iron or if you don’t have time to use both styling tools. Getting sleek, smooth tresses with your blow dryer can reduce styling time drastically and can be simple to achieve if you follow these easy steps:

1. Shampoo and condition your hair as usual either during your shower or when you just wash your hair. Clean hair is super important when styling, you don’t want to heat up grease or accumulated hair products on your locks! Towel dry your hair to eliminate excess moisture.

2. Apply some heat protectant, like Pro Naturals Moroccan Oil Hair Treatment, to prevent damage from the heat emitted from the hair dryer. Work it in thoroughly, including the ends.

3. Work some straightening serum into your hair (the amount depends on the length and texture), distributing it evenly and massaging it in.

4. Now it’s time to break out the blow dryer. If you want superior results, you’ll want to try the Karmin Salon Pro Professional hair dryer, use it at a low setting first and direct the airflow gently at your hair, combing through with your fingers to get rid of excess moisture.

5. Divide your hair into three sections, one at the back and two at the front. Clip the lateral sections and select a small part of hair from the unclipped section of the back. With a thick round brush, start at the roots and pull the brush gently through till you reach the ends as you simultaneously blow dry. Pull the hair away from your head, stretching it and straightening it under the heat.

6. Brush the underside of your hair and expose it directly to the heat and once it’s dry, switch to the top. Distribute the heat and tension evenly over each section to prevent heat concentration and drying out. Keep drying small parts of hair until that section is dry, then move on to the other sections until your entire head s dry and straight.

Finish off with a light application of anti-frizz serum or spray to tame flyaways and keep your locks smooth for longer. Want extra tips? Here’s a video tutorial of how to blow dry your hair straight and run it through with a flat iron afterwards.
