Simple Straight Hairstyles

Published by on July 29th, 2011

Straight hair is a blessing for lots of people, the reason being that sleek, silken locks are always in fashion and they’re very easy to look after. Straight hair can come in three textures: course, medium and fine, so the ideal think is to find a hairstyle that works with your hair type and texture. Here are some ideas:

The blunt cut

Short and sweet, no layers required and hardly any maintenance, just a monthly trim if you want to keep it that way.

Layered cut

Start at chin level and narrow down from there. To maintain the layers, have your hair trimmed regularly.

Layered bob with fringe

Short and layered with a nice long fringe to set off your eyes. Pretty easy to look after and all you need is to take regular trips to get the layers trimmed.

Short and straight with layers

Like the layered bob but simpler and requires the same care.

If you have long hair, you can experiment with flirtatious flips and long, loose layers to get the most out of your locks. If your hair isn’t the length you want it to be, try natural or synthetic clip-in hair extensions that can be attached to your tresses. Don’t worry, if you buy high quality extensions made of high level human hair, your style will look completely natural. If you have course hair, use balm, serum or try Pro Naturals Moroccan Oil Hair Treatment to make your hair silky smooth and shiny. This hair treatment also acts as an efficient heat protectant, so remember to use it before whipping out the hair dryer, flat iron or curling iron.

The great thing about straight hair is that you have hundreds of styling possibilities. All you need to do is choose the ideal style for your hair’s texture, if you want, consult your stylist on which look suits you best.

Flat Iron Tips and Tricks

Published by on July 28th, 2011

Unless your hair is utterly, flawlessly and perfectly straight, you’ll have to have used or owned a flat iron at some point in your life. With all the choice available on today’s market, lots of people have discovered new ways to create exciting styles and to do that, they have had to learn a few tricks to bring out the most in their styling appliances.

Many have found the Karmin G3 to be one of the flat irons to most match their styling needs, with lots of potential to create professional-level looks. Here are some tips and tricks to help you get the most out of your own flat iron.

Tip/Trick 1: one of the first tricks is to find the ideal flat iron for you. The type and size of flat iron depends on the type and texture of your hair, for example if you have long, thick or course hair you need a flat iron with plates up to 3 inches in width. If you have short, thin or fine hair, go for flat iron with smaller plates.

Tip/Trick 2: Not only can you straighten hair with flat irons, you can experiment with waves and curls too! All you need is the right technique and enough time to spare.

Tip/Trick 3: Let your flat iron heat up before you start styling. Also, make sure your hair is clean, unwashed or product-covered hair makes a mess of the plates and can affect the performance of your flat iron, even damage your locks in the process. Always wash and condition your hair, applying a heat protectant before styling when your hair is completely dry.

Tip/Trick 4: section off your hair, it makes styling a quicker and more efficient process. Keep each section small enough for your flat iron to avoid running over the same parts again and again.

Tip/Trick 5: when you work on a section of hair, press the plates down as close to the scalp as you can without burning yourself. Use steady, even pressure when sliding the flat iron down, all the way to the ends.

Once you consider these tips and trips, nothing is stopping you from obtaining the results you want!

How to Blow Dry Your Hair Like a Pro

Published by on July 27th, 2011

It really isn’t that hard to recreate a salon-quality blowout by yourself, just follow these simple steps to achieve professional results!

1. Having clean hair before you start blow drying is very important. Shampoo and condition your hair as normal and blot the excess moisture with a towel. Don’t blow dry dripping wet hair, you could end up boiling it!

2. Apply some smoothing product on your hair to keep frizz under control when you blow dry. Work it into every strand, this will give you better results. If your hair is dry, use some leave-in conditioner, shine serum or straightening balm to prevent it from getting drier under the heat. Coat the ends first and work your way up, using a comp to distribute the product efficiently.

3. Now it’s time to bring out the hair dryer. If you’re after professional results, try the Karmin Salon Pro, you’ll be amazed at how fabulous your tresses will look! Use it on a medium or low setting to gently dry your hair before turning up the heat.

4. Separate your hair into sections and clip up all them  but one. The number of sections depends on the thickness of your hair. With the airflow directed towards your hair, start combing through the section using your fingers, pulling from the roots. Lift the hair up and out a few inches, pointing the nozzle downwards always, holding the section taut so it can dry quicker and without frizz. This will dry the roots first, so that moisture won’t travel down.

5. Continue with a round-barreled brush, pulling it through the section while you blow dry with the nozzle pointing downwards. As you pull the brush, follow it with the hair dryer and hold the hair very taut.

7. Repeat this with all the sections and finish of with the cool shot button to set the style. An application of serum will ensure your look is polished and professional.

That’s all there is to it! You might have to practise before you get the results you want, it’s not exactly easy handling a hair dryer and brush expertly on the first try. Good luck!

How to Keep Sleek Styles Straight

Published by on July 26th, 2011

Want long lasting straightness? Sometimes this can be tricky if your hair isn’t naturally straight, or if certain environmental factors come into play. To keep your hair looking freshly straightened for longer, consider the following tips:

• Keep your hair long, it’s less likely to curl up like short hair. The added weight of long hair can pull it down and stay straighter for hours.

• Avoid straightening during wet, windy and humid weather. This can make your hair frizzy and ruin all of your efforts.

• Invest in a high quality hair straightener, like the Karmin G3. Professional straighteners release more concentrated heat to keep your locks straighter and healthier looking for longer.

• Use straightening shampoo and conditioner, they contain ingredients to flatten your hair. Don’t shampoo to frequently and dry your hair with a soft towel or hair dryer (always blowing downwards to avoid volume). Wet hair can break more easily, which is why you need to dry it before straightening.

• Straightening in a hurry only makes the results last less time, so make the effort of separating smaller sections and taking your time on each one. It may be quite a lengthy process but your hair will remain straight for longer.

• When straightening, use swift, smooth movements to run over sections without pausing over any areas because you can expose them to too much heat. A heat protectant is in order to keep your hair from suffering heat damage. Try Pro Naturals Morroccan Hair Oil with Heat Protectant.

• Use a straightening serum containing silicone on your hair, including on the roots. The serum protects your hair from environmental moisture and humidity.

• Mist the underside and top of your hair with spray after you’ve finished. It might make your locks a bit stiff but it also sets the style.

• When your hair is straight, avoid tying it up with a hair-band or clip for too long, you can experience breaks and twists when you take it out again.

And presto! Sleeker, smoother hair for longer!

Flowing Waves with Your Flat Iron

Published by on July 25th, 2011

Do you long for luscious wavy locks? Did you know that it’s possible to create them using a flat iron? We’ll show you how! All you need is a hair dryer like the Karmin Salon Pro, a flat iron like the Karmin G3 and a heat protectant. We recommend Pro Naturals Morroccan Hair Oil. Let’s get started!

1. First, blow dry your hair using a medium temperature setting and comb it through with a wide-tooth comb to get rid of tangles. Work in some heat protectant into your locks, concentrating on the ends as these tend to suffer the most from the heat.

2. Whip out your flat iron and let it heat up on it’s highest temperature setting, we’re going to need it red-hot for this step. While you wait, separate your hair into manageable sections and use pins or clips to keep them out of the way.

3. Select a portion of hair and with your flat iron, clamp the plates down onto it, smoothing it over until you reach the middle, then simply rotate the flat iron outwards, making the section of hair loop around. Pull down until you reach the ends and release. You should have a nice loose curl which you can tousle using your fingers to create waves.

4. Repeat step 3 with all sections of your hair until all you have are lovely, flowing waves. You can touch up parts with your flat iron, just remember to start the wave at the middle of a section, not higher up, as you would when straightening.

5. Lastly, apply some styling product like a mousse or a spray to set the waves, but don’t get to eager with the amount, you don’t want to weigh those waves down! If you’re worried about frizz, use a frizz-reducing product to prevent humidity from getting to your style without causing stiffness.

Here’s a very useful video that shows you how to make loose, summer waves with your flat iron:

How to Blow Dry your Hair Straight

Published by on July 22nd, 2011

Can’t spare the time to blow dry AND straighten your hair? Well now you can learn how to blow dry and straighten with just your hair dryer, a really useful thing if you you don’t own a flat iron or if you don’t have time to use both styling tools. Getting sleek, smooth tresses with your blow dryer can reduce styling time drastically and can be simple to achieve if you follow these easy steps:

1. Shampoo and condition your hair as usual either during your shower or when you just wash your hair. Clean hair is super important when styling, you don’t want to heat up grease or accumulated hair products on your locks! Towel dry your hair to eliminate excess moisture.

2. Apply some heat protectant, like Pro Naturals Moroccan Oil Hair Treatment, to prevent damage from the heat emitted from the hair dryer. Work it in thoroughly, including the ends.

3. Work some straightening serum into your hair (the amount depends on the length and texture), distributing it evenly and massaging it in.

4. Now it’s time to break out the blow dryer. If you want superior results, you’ll want to try the Karmin Salon Pro Professional hair dryer, use it at a low setting first and direct the airflow gently at your hair, combing through with your fingers to get rid of excess moisture.

5. Divide your hair into three sections, one at the back and two at the front. Clip the lateral sections and select a small part of hair from the unclipped section of the back. With a thick round brush, start at the roots and pull the brush gently through till you reach the ends as you simultaneously blow dry. Pull the hair away from your head, stretching it and straightening it under the heat.

6. Brush the underside of your hair and expose it directly to the heat and once it’s dry, switch to the top. Distribute the heat and tension evenly over each section to prevent heat concentration and drying out. Keep drying small parts of hair until that section is dry, then move on to the other sections until your entire head s dry and straight.

Finish off with a light application of anti-frizz serum or spray to tame flyaways and keep your locks smooth for longer. Want extra tips? Here’s a video tutorial of how to blow dry your hair straight and run it through with a flat iron afterwards.

Sleek Styles with your Straightener

Published by on July 22nd, 2011

There’s really not much to using a flat iron, you’ll be surprised at how simple it is to achieve silken tresses that last through the day. however, following the correct steps is the only way to obtain the sleek style you want, and if you’re an avid flat iron user then it’s even more important to carry out the process properly.

Make sure you have a high quality flat iron handy, like the Karmin G3 Salon Pro, which guarantees spectacular results.

1. First of all, shampoo and condition your hair as normal, clean hair is best for straightening. Grease and dirt can build up on the plates and eventually affect the performance of your flat iron.

2. Use a heat protectant on your hair (try Pro Naturals Morrocan Oil Hair Treatment for extra protection and smoothness), spreading it over your palms and working it along the length of your locks. This will minimize heat damage and prevent your hair from drying out.

3. Your hair is still damp, so grab your hair dryer (if you don’t own one, check out the Karmin Salon Pro Hair Dryer) and a paddle brush to start drying your hair, brushing as you go. Set the setting to medium until your hair is 80% dry, and don’t worry if you notice frizz, you’ll get rid of it soon enough!

4. Separate your hair into sections, and choose a portion at the front, clipping the rest up. Grab your flat iron and go over that section, starting at the roots and pulling down towards the ends. Always keep the pressure constant until the ends of your hair fall away. Don’t stop or pause, this way the section could get uneven.

5. Repeat with all the sections of your hair until it’s all straight. You may need to run some parts through with the flat iron again to even out the style.

6. Finish off by blending the ends with your flat iron to eliminate the separation caused by the sections. A light application of spray to set the style and you’re done! Beautiful, sleek locks with not one hair out of place.

Creating Curls with a Curling Iron

Published by on July 20th, 2011

Curls are all the rage because of the soft, youthful look they create but only a few have been blessed with natural bounce in their locks. Bit not all is lost, there are dozens of methods that convert even bone straight hair into beautiful curls and spirals. In this article we’ll show you how to curl your locks using a curling iron. If you own a flat iron then check out our Creating Curly Styles with Your Flat Iron article.

The process will take about thirty minutes or more depending on your hair texture and the type of curling iron you’re using (if it’s the Karmin Professional Salon Pro Clipless Curling Iron then you’ve hit the jackpot). Here’s how:

1. Wash and condition your hair as normal but avoid using straightening serum, it will prevent your curls from holding. Comb your hair and blow dry if necessary (or simply air dry if you have the time), getting all the tangles out. Separate your hair into small sections, 8 or 9 if your hair is thin or fine, 15 or 16 if it’s course or thick.

2. Clip up the sections, leaving just one out to work on. Place it through the curling iron and rotate (or roll it up around the barrel if the iron is clipless) and keep it there for about ten seconds before releasing. Do the same on all the sections until all of your hair is tumbling with curls.

3. To finish, use your fingers to gently tousle the curls for a more natural look and add some spray (just a light application so as not to weigh the curls down) to hold the style for longer.

That’s all there is to it! Don’t forget to apply some heat protectant before using the curling iron, we recommend Pro Naturals Moroccan Hair Oil for the job, it keeps your hair safe from the heat and leaves it smooth too.

Creating Curly Styles with Your Flat Iron

Published by on July 20th, 2011

If you don’t already have a head full of bouncy, shapely curls then it’s about time you did!

But curling with a flat iron? How does that work? Very well actually, and the results even last longer than when curling with a curling iron. How do create beautiful, bouncy curls? We’ll tell you:

1. The first thing you need to do is wash your hair as normal and use a heat protectant to minimize heat damage. Pro Naturals Morroccan Oil Hair Treatment with Heat Protector can strengthen your locks and smooth them while creating a barrier between the strands and heat.

2. Next, divide your hair into sections and pick up your flat iron, we recommend the Karmin G3 Salon Pro for this job, and grab a section about half an inch thick (the thicker the section, the bigger the curl).

3. Now for the tricky part. It’s really all about the angle when you’re curling each section. Start further down than usual, around the middle and clamp the flat iron over the section. Keep the flat iron at a vertical angle and clamp down on the section, rotating outwards and simultaneously pulling towards the ends. That’s one way to do it, but there are different techniques depending on the type of curl you’re after.

4. Do this for all sections of your hair and when you’ve finished, add some random curls to the mix and blend them in so that the style looks more natural. Set the curls with a fixing hair spray so that the style can last longer and to protect them from moisture and prevent them from falling flat.

Here’s a video tutorial you can follow that teaches you how to curl your hair using a flat iron using another method, it’s quite straightforward and shows you step by step how to create beautiful, loose curls to last through the day:
